Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a man suspected of domestic battery and aggravated fleeing and eluding after a pursuit that ended in a multi-vehicle crash.

According to authorities, shortly after 5:00 pm on July 17th, deputies responded to a residence in the 18500 block of West Old Gages Lake Road in unincorporated Grayslake for a report of domestic battery. A caller reported that her 19-year-old pregnant daughter had been battered by her boyfriend, identified as 22-year-old Felix James Jr., of the 1900 block of Midday Drive, Zion.

It was reported that following up on the initial call, dispatch received a 911 call from a witness who reported seeing James punching his girlfriend repeatedly while driving in the area of Hunt Club Road and Route 120.

Later, a sheriff’s deputy located James’ vehicle, a Chevrolet HHR, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. James fled from the deputy eastbound on Gages Lake Road. Due to the ongoing threat to the victim’s safety, deputies pursued the vehicle.

The pursuit ended in Gurnee when James’ vehicle collided with another car after running a red light. The crash involved a total of four vehicles. James was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital before being transported to Lake County Jail.

Charges against James include aggravated battery to a pregnant woman, aggravated fleeing and eluding, domestic battery, and several traffic violations.
