A Cicero man accused of a fatal drunk-driving collision on I-355 will remain behind bars pending trial, DuPage County officials announced Monday.
Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion to detain 50-year-old Adolfo Carrillo during a first appearance court hearing this morning. Carrillo faces one felony count of Aggravated DUI Causing Death, alongside several misdemeanor charges including DUI and speeding.
The charges stem from a May 1 incident near the Army Trail Road merge onto northbound I-355. Illinois State Police arrived at the scene at approximately 5:58 p.m. to find two heavily damaged vehicles: a 2002 Ford F150, allegedly driven by Carrillo, and a 2017 Lexus SUV occupied by 65-year-old Rebeca Hidalgo and her two adult children.
Investigators allege that Carrillo was traveling at a high rate of speed when he abruptly cut across several lanes of traffic, striking the passenger side of the Lexus.
Hidalgo was discovered unconscious in the rear seat of the Lexus. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to severe internal injuries just over an hour later. Her two children and Carrillo were also hospitalized for minor injuries.
According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, responding troopers noted that Carrillo exhibited signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. A Breathalyzer test administered at 7:30 p.m. allegedly recorded a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .098, which is above the legal limit of .08.
Carrillo is scheduled to return to court on June 1, 2026, for a hearing before Judge Margaret O’Connell.
State’s Attorney Berlin expressed his gratitude to the Illinois State Police and the prosecuting team for their swift work in the investigation. He extended his condolences to the Hidalgo family, noting that their lives have been “permanently turned upside down.”
