The City Council’s Committee on Police and Fire held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at City Hall. The meeting saw the committee approve several appointments and advance a Chicago Fire Department ordinance.
The meeting, chaired by Ald. Chris Taliaferro (29th), was called to order by Vice Chair Robinson (4th) at 10:45 a.m. Remote participation was authorized for Alds. Mosley (21st), Taylor (20th), and Napolitano (41st) due to extenuating circumstances. Several aldermen were absent.
The committee heard public comments before addressing its agenda. Among the key items was the appointment of Marquinn McDonald to District Council 002 and Keola (Keo) Jean-Joseph to District Council 024. Both appointments were approved by the committee and will be forwarded to the City Council meeting on February 19th for final approval. The appointment of Gina Piemonte to the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability and the direct introduction of Patrick “Paddy” Lindley as a member of District Council 17 were held in committee.
The committee also approved an ordinance amending the Municipal Code to authorize the Fire Commissioner to accept grants of equipment, supplies, materials, or other personal property. Additionally, they approved the donation of various items by the Chicago Fire Department to the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago. Both of these items will also be forwarded to the City Council meeting on February 19th.
