Governor JB Pritzker announced the selection of Colonel Lenny Williams as the next Assistant Adjutant General – Army of the Illinois National Guard and Commander of the Illinois Army National Guard. With this appointment, Colonel Williams will be promoted to Brigadier General.
Brigadier General Williams will serve as one of two Governor-appointed deputies to Major General Rodney Boyd, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard. He will oversee the Illinois Army National Guard, which consists of over 1,400 full-time Soldiers and employees and over 10,000 citizen-Soldiers.
Colonel Williams has served in the Illinois Army National Guard for over 30 years, holding a variety of leadership positions. He has deployed overseas twice, including to Afghanistan, and has received numerous awards and decorations.
The Illinois National Guard has a long history, dating back to the 1700s. It has served in many conflicts, including the Civil War and World Wars. Today, it continues to support both federal and state missions.
